Tokenized equity
Generally a security for US federal tax. Capital gains rules typically apply — short-term under one year, long-term otherwise. Confirm wrapper characterization with your advisor.
OTC secondaries
Typically a direct sale or purchase of the underlying security. Basis, holding period, and character flow through to the shares. The SPA governs.
Perpetuals
May be Section 1256 or ordinary income depending on structure and jurisdiction. Not available to US persons on Truffle; non-US users, consult your home-country advisor.
Prediction markets
Event payoffs may be ordinary income rather than capital gains. Treatment differs between CFTC venues (Kalshi) and on-chain (Polymarket).
Home-country reporting is your responsibility. Truffle does not report to non-US authorities and does not withhold.
